The Solstice Is Coming, The Solstice is Coming!

One if by land, two if by .... nevermind.

Wolfram Alpha, by the same guy who created Mathematica, is a very cool computational search engine thingy and it tells me that the 2009 Winter Solstice will be at 11:49 AM today here in MPLS.

I just thought you all should know. Prepare yourselves for longer days and a less gradual axial tilt (relative to the sun) for this Earth of ours.

Signing out,
Luke

Gmail Themes

I love Google, today they let me turn my Gmail Inbox into a retro video game! Well, kind of... Gmail has the option to change the "visual theme" of your inbox, and today I noticed they had a retro video game theme, which looks like Super Mario World with some Space Invaders influences, and I love it. Take a look!

1st Snow

I love snow. We got our first dusting of snow last night, and I noticed it just before I went to bed. I ran outside and took a couple pictures, and then I fell asleep as happy as a boy can be. Surprisingly, there are little patches of snow which survived through the day. The forecast says that we could potentially get 1-2" of snow tomorrow night. I'm guessing there's still some warm fall weather left, but winter is right around the corner!

Funny Nerds

So I know I'm a nerd, and I even submit that I like being a nerd. However, I think it's ever-so-important to point out that I think I'm a funny nerd.

That said, I don't think I'd stack up well against the author of this web-comic: xkcd ("A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.) Found at xkcd.com

The guy who writes this, Randall Munroe, is a genius, and he makes me laugh out loud on a regular Monday, Wednesday, Friday basis. Maybe it's not funny to you non-nerds out there, but then again, maybe you'll enjoy it too. His comic today pokes fun at the simultaneous development of differential calculus by Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz during the 1600's. Coincidentally, I was reading a bit about these events on a recent trip to a Borders bookstore just last night! The punchline is pure nerd-comic genius.

Enjoy,
Luke

Favre in Minnesota? Is it April Fool's Day?

After a media circus worthy of a presidential impeachment Brett Favre has apparently joined my beloved Minnesota Vikings for real. The one year $10-12 Million dollar contract was confirmed today by the AP and I read about it on ESPN.

On the one hand I look at Favre as a mortal enemy, but on the other I think he could really make our Vikes a contender this year.

Skol Vikings!

I'm Linked

So I've been building my profile on Linked In, it's a professional social-networking website; think of it as Facebook for professional relationships. It's an interesting concept, and I'm hoping it can be useful during my current job-search. Here's a snap of my profile page:

Basically, my profile is a re-hashed version of my resume, containing my skills and experience.

That's about all for now, Cheers,
Luke

Hero for the Day

This kid is my hero for the day. Apparently he frequents the Apple store in New York City and creates these Youtube video clips. According to him he'll be going on the Ellen show sometime in the near future. Props Kid.
